Computer Security discussed
Most people would consider their computer to be something of great value as there are things on it that can not be replaced and some can be
replaced but often with a great deal of difficulty. So if you agree that your computer is very valuable and not just in terms of a dollar value
then what have you done to keep it secure or improve its security?
There are some things that you should know about safety issues that pertain to your computer. Think in terms of email for a moment, are you
aware that there are people who can snatch your email right out of cyber space, intercept it, and read it? One way to beef up security measures
is to select very strong passwords.
Adding a firewall is another great way to ensure some safety to your computer and the information that it contains. Other things that you
should add are a great anti virus program, patches, and file encryption as these will also benefit your level of security. A great way to
maximize the security of your computer is to understand it better.
If you understand how the Internet and some of its components work then you can combat them better.
Any information that you receive from someone else’s computer on the Internet should never be trusted, period. As soon as you let your guard
down you will receive an email message that will have a virus attached and infect your entire computer.
It will destroy your files and programs, basically your computer will be ruined. At first the Internet was built on trust but that did not
last very long especially after e- commerce emerged. Always be cautious when you are using the Internet.
When you send email, browse websites, or chat online you would like to think that the conversation just bounces back and forth between the two
of you and that it is safe, however that is not the case at all. Instead it ends up in a lot of different places before it reaches the person
that it was intended for.
Never think that conversations that you have online are in the clear, concealed or hidden because they are not.
Remember that anything that you send or receive on the Internet is at risk of being viewed by others and they very well could use it for their
own benefit.
One way to deal with this problem is encryption which uses mathematics to conceal Internet information. Usually you will see the Encryption
emblem on websites that require a credit card and this is stated so that you are aware that you are dealing with a secure site. Securing your
computer is something that should not be taken lightly and if you do a little research you will be able to find out some more things that you can
do.
Backing up your work and choosing strong passwords are extremely important. When you purchased your home computer you paid money for that
system and then you paid for other things such as keeping your system safe.
These things are all part of being responsible and also part of the process of owning a computer.
