Free Computer Security
Computer security is a tough concept for a lot of people. Just the terminology alone can send a person's head spinning. Often it seems like
you are reading in a foreign language.
First you should familiarize yourself with some of the terms and words that are used. You should also familiarize yourself many of the attacks
and vulnerabilities and how to combat them with antivirus software and firewalls.
There are three things that are a must when preparing to protect your computer, install and maintain anti virus software. Many of these
programs now come free of charge with your Internet server, some are also available off of the Internet but please, download with caution, and as
a last resort you may have to go to the computer store and buy a program but there really are plenty of free programs around.
Ask some friends which programs they use to get an idea. Set up regular scans, protect your email and consistently update.
Do not let social engineering get the better of you by opening unknown or suspicious emails.
Many viruses or worms are spread this way. Sadly enough, hackers have advanced so much that they can even make the emails look like they are
coming from someone other than the person who sent them. If you do not know who sent the email then just delete it without even opening it. If it
looks like it is from someone that you know go ahead and open it but do not open any attachments.
Look cautiously at words that are misspelled because viruses and worms tend to arrive with poor spelling and grammar. Patch your computer or
it will be left vulnerable and can be exploited by hackers who wish to gain access and control of your computer.
The more interconnected that computers become and the more sophisticated the software gets, the more threats and vulnerabilities that computer
users face by hijackers and hackers. So yes, everyone needs to protect their computer from viruses and it can be done without spending a lot or
even any money.
There are a number of things you can do for free to keep your computer safe from viruses. Most computer viruses would not occur in the first
place if people would think about what they are doing and use some common sense. Do not let your curiosity get the better of you when it comes to
opening emails, just delete it. You can only stay safe if you stay smart.
Would you travel in a bad neighborhood in real life? The same rules apply while you are on the computer. If you go looking for trouble you
will find it. It is almost a full guarantee that if you click on any adult websites that contain pornography that you will get infected with
something that you do not want.
Remember that these are all free programs and free tips to remain safe while using the Internet! Take a look at all of the free anti virus
programs that are available and see which program best meets your needs.
